Film Projects

Sāmoana Media is dedicated to creating Samoan and Pacific Islander content that is grounded in place and identity. The following film projects highlight the importance of maintaining connection to land, culture, language, history, and contemporary issues affecting our people and communities. 

Fiction Projects

  1. ʻĀiga-ʻĀina (Family-Land): A short fiction film about the impacts of cultural human zoos in the Pacific. It follows the journey of a young Samoan boy, who is promised excitement and adventure at the World Fair in Paris but foresees an ominous future when he encounters an orphan Hawaiian boy in Honolulu. 

Non-Fiction Projects

  1. Not A U.S. Citizen. A short documentary exploring the unique political and legal status of American Samoans as non-citizen nationals of the United States. 
  2. U.S. National. An expanded feature film looking at the citizenship cases and the impacts on American Samoans. 
  3. Not Fully American. A miniseries about the unique political structure of American Samoa, examining various aspects of Samoan culture and politics that are preserved in law. 
  4. Fetū o Osiania (Star of Oceania). This film project looks at the Polynesian Confederation in Sāmoa and King Kalākaua's efforts to establish relationships in the Pacific, especially in Sāmoa.
