HEALTHCARE AND REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS

In American Sāmoa, most people are Democrats but are socially conservative. 

American Samoans view on healthcare and abortion are largely determined by a mixture of Indigenous and Christian influences. 

There is only one hospital for an island population of fewer than 50,000 people. 

Abortion was more acceptable before the arrival of missionaries and was largely performed by a local midwife. Contemporary religious sensibilities, however, has shifted views on abortion.
